Privacy Policy
Effective Date: October 20, 2026 • Version 1.2
1. Core Privacy Philosophy
WeatherPeek is designed with data minimization as a core architectural constraint. You do not need to register an account, create a password, or submit personal identifiers to browse weather forecasts on this website.
2. Geographic Location Processing
Optional Device Geolocation: WeatherPeek provides an explicit “GPS Location” button. We never query your device location automatically on page load. When you click this button, your browser prompts you for explicit permission. The resulting latitude and longitude coordinates are processed client-side within your browser session to fetch weather conditions for your vicinity. WeatherPeek does not store your GPS coordinates in a permanent database, build user movement profiles, or sell location data to brokers.
Search Queries: When you search for a city or postal code in the search bar, the query string is sent to our caching API route to query the Open-Meteo Geocoding database. Search queries are not tied to your identity.
3. Local Storage vs. Cookies
WeatherPeek utilizes your browser's localStorage API solely to preserve your personal viewing preferences between visits:
weatherpeek_unit: Stores your chosen temperature scale (Celsius or Fahrenheit).weatherpeek_location: Remembers the last location you chose so you do not have to re-search on return.weatherpeek_favorites: Saves the list of cities you star.weatherpeek_recent_searches: Stores up to six recent city searches for quick selection.
This data never leaves your browser device and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings.
4. Server Logs & Hosting Infrastructure
Our web servers (hosted in secure European/US cloud facilities) automatically log standard transient technical information in accordance with legitimate security interests (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). These logs record IP addresses, user agent strings, requested URLs, and timestamps. Logs are used strictly for rate-limiting, DDoS mitigation, and diagnostic troubleshooting, and are automatically purged after 30 days.
5. Upstream Weather Data Provider
To deliver weather forecasts, our server proxies queries to Open-Meteo (openmeteo.com). When a request is made, geographic coordinates and timezone parameters are forwarded to retrieve numerical model outputs. Open-Meteo operates under European privacy standards.
6. Contact Inquiries
If you submit a message through our Contact page, we collect your name, email address, subject, and message solely to respond to your specific editorial or technical inquiry. We do not add your email to marketing lists without explicit consent.
7. Changes & Contact
Any future updates to our privacy practices will be documented here. Inquiries regarding this policy may be directed to our editorial desk at contact@weatherpeek.com.
